A range of learning activities is planned for ECON1339, including lectures and tutorials. Lectures will introduce students to behavioural economics concepts, theories and methods.
A structured tutorial programme will give students the opportunity to explore the concepts covered in lectures in greater depth, apply and extend the concepts and become familiar with how they work in practice in business and policy. Tutorials have been designed to encourage active participation via individual and group problem-solving exercises as well as tutor-led group discussions. Additionally, students may be asked to participate in online activities which will help students engage with the materials covered in the course. There will also be an industry-related exercise that will enable students to see these concepts in action.
Students will be introduced to, and are expected to read, academic literature relating to the concepts covered in the course. As this is a topics-based course, no one textbook adequately covers all the material. Students’ reading list for each topic encompasses a wide variety of sources.
Assignments require students to engage with the concepts and methods, and/or how they can be applied to explain and predict real-life business phenomena. Active and constructive participation in individual and group problem solving, discussions and/or activities is expected during the tutorials, in addition to weekly reading, attempts to solve tutorial questions, problems and online activities, and careful preparation of the Assignments.
